It’s grown into the largest annual event at the White House, so it only makes sense that the hometown Washington Redskins were on hand to join in the festivities.

Monday’s White House Easter Egg Roll – which has taken place for 136 years now on the South Lawn – focused on promoting health and wellness with its theme “Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape,” and Redskins teammates Stephen Bowen, Pierre Garçon, Robert Griffin III and Ryan Kerrigan were more than happy to help spread that message.

“Ever since moving out here, I've known about other people and teammates of mine that have gone to the event and have said how fun it is, and it really is a good time,” Kerrigan said. “You get to interact with a lot of different people, interact with the kids.”

The four teammates were assigned to the NFL Play 60 portion of the event, in which dozens of children ran through some football drills with the players.

“We had a couple lines set up where some kids could run over some hurdles and throw a football with us, run over some fake football dummies,” Kerrigan said. “It was just doing stuff to get them moving and get them exercising.”

The Redskins at the event were also able to meet and hang out with several other professional athletes and celebrities, including Dwayne Allen of the Indianapolis Colts, Dwight Freeney of the San Diego Chargers, Gio Gonzalez and Matt Williams of the Washington Nationals, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and Dr. Oz.

“It was a great experience,” Griffin III said. “This is our city -- we have to represent it and protect it and also give back to it. It was a lot of fun.”

Perhaps the top moment for the Redskins players at Monday’s Easter Egg Roll, however, was getting the chance to meet First Lady Michelle Obama.

Griffin III – who had previously already met President Barack Obama – said the First Lady was "a very nice, beautiful woman."

“It’s an honor,” he said.

Kerrigan said Michelle Obama definitely made the Redskins contingent feel welcome in her home.

“You would’ve thought that she would’ve known all of us for her whole life with the way she greeted us,” he said. “It was like we were best friends. It was really nice, really cordial and she’s definitely a very respectable woman.”

After spending some time in the White House, Griffin III was asked which job was tougher: Redskins quarterback or President of the United States.

“I mean, he's got to control the whole world, basically, so there's a lot of things that come at the president that don't come at me as a football player,” Griffin III said with a smile. “And then there's 350-pound linemen that come at me that don't come at the president. Each job is hard in its own right, but I'd like to think that being the president of the United States is a little bit harder than being a quarterback in the NFL.”

Kerrigan said he hopes to be back for next year’s 137th-annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

“It was just a really fun event,” he said.
