Redskins' Annual Holiday Toy Drive Kicks Off

Posted Dec 5, 2011

The Redskins Charitable Foundation and U.S. Marine Corps have teamed up for the "Touchdown For Tots" toy drive. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Dec. 11 game at FedExField or donate at any Redskins Store.

The Redskins Charitable Foundation and the U.S Marine Corps will again reach thousands of underserved Washington, D.C.-metro area children and teens this holiday season as they join forces for Touchdown for Tots, a national toy drive benefiting the Toys for Tots Foundation.

With three out of 10 children living in our Nation’s Capital in extreme poverty, safety Oshiomogho Atogwe knows how imperative it is to come together and give so that every child is able to celebrate the holiday season.

“I’m encouraging Redskins Nation to join me in spreading holiday cheer to those in need in our area,” Atogwe said. “To be blessed and pass on those blessings is an awesome privilege and responsibility.

"Now more than ever it is important to support our neighbors in need through initiatives like Touchdown for Tots so that every child may experience the joy of opening a gift during the holidays.”

In 2010, Redskins fans donated over 1,047 toys and $27,329 to the Toys for Tots campaign.

The toys and the funds collected were added to the 101,000 toys collected throughout the D.C. metro area. That meant more than 27,000 area children and teens were able to unwrap a gift Christmas morning.

Fans can score a Touchdown for Tots in a variety of convenient ways:

• Touchdown for Tots Toy Drive: Sunday, Dec. 11, Redskins-Patriots game at FedExField

Fans are encouraged to bring to the game a new, unwrapped toy for children and teens. Local Marines will be stationed at all stadium gates and suites entrances with collection bins to collect toys to distribute to children and teens in need throughout the D.C. metro area this holiday season.

• Donate at any Official Washington Redskins Store

Now through Dec. 18, fans can visit any official Redskins store location or go to www.redskinsteamstore.com to make a tax-deductible donation to Toys for Tots. Donation will be added to merchandise total. Every $10 donated will put a new toy in the hands of deserving children in the D.C. metro area this holiday season.

• Donate online
