Some quick highlights of the Redskins’ regular season schedule:

  • For the third year in a row, the Redskins open the regular season against an NFC East opponent as they take on the New York Giants at FedExField.

  • The Redskins' season-opening game is the third time in the last four years they open against the Giants.

  • The Redskins' only nationally televised prime time game is Week 3 at Dallas on Monday Night Football.

  • The bye arrives early in the season, in Week 5.

  • The Redskins' game vs. Buffalo will be played in Toronto, Canada at the Rogers Centre. It's believed to be the Redskins' first regular season game ever on international soil. The Bills have played at least two home games in Toronto every year since 2008.

  • Two of the final three games are against NFC East opponents, including a season-ending game on New Year's Day against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Here's the press release issued by the Redskins regarding the team's 2011 regular season schedule:

The Washington Redskins announced their 2011 regular season schedule, which includes a Monday night game at arch-rival Dallas in Week 3, the Redskins’ first regular season game played outside of the United States when they play Buffalo in Toronto, and a Christmas Eve game at FedExField against Minnesota.

The Redskins will kick off their 2011 campaign with a home contest against the division-rival New York Giants on Sept. 11, at 4:15 p.m. ET, on FOX. A second consecutive home game will follow when the Arizona Cardinals visit in Week 2, at 1 p.m. ET, on FOX. It will mark the first time since 1995-96 that the Redskins will open consecutive seasons with two home games.

The Redskins’ first road trip will be to Cowboys Stadium for the 15th Monday night affair between the two franchises. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Going into 2011, the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry trails only Denver-Oakland (15) as the most frequent matchup on Monday Night Football.

In Week 4, Washington will travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams for the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time in seven seasons. The contest will air on FOX at 1 p.m. ET. That game will be followed by the Redskins’ bye week, which will be the team’s earliest since 2007 (Week 4).

Following their open date, the Redskins will jump back into division play when they host Philadelphia, at 1 p.m. ET, on FOX. That contest will be followed by a trip to Carolina in Week 7, at 1 p.m. ET, on FOX.

In Week 8, the Redskins will play the Buffalo Bills at Rogers Centre in Toronto, at 4:05 p.m. ET, on FOX. It will mark the first time Washington has ever played an international game in the regular season. They have played preseason games in London in 1992 and Osaka, Japan, in 2002.

The second half of the slate will begin with a visit from the San Francisco 49ers, at 1 p.m. ET, on FOX. It will be the 49ers’ first visit to FedExField since the 2005 season.

In Weeks 10-15 and 17, NFL games are subject to flexible scheduling.

In Week 10, the Redskins will visit Miami for the first time since 2003. In Week 11, the Redskins will host the Cowboys, looking to win at home for the second consecutive time in the series following a 13-7 victory in the 2010 regular season opener. The Dallas contest will be followed by a visit to Seattle, the Redskins’ longest road trip of the season. All of these games will be broadcast on FOX.

In Weeks 13 and 14, the Redskins will welcome a pair of AFC East 2010 playoff qualifiers in the New York Jets and the New England Patriots, respectively. Both games are slated to air on CBS.

The Redskins will make their annual trip to New York to face the Giants in Week 15 before returning home to play the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 24. Both of those contests will be broadcast on FOX.

Washington will close the regular season on New Year’s Day at Philadelphia. The last time the Redskins closed the regular season at the Eagles came in 2005, when Washington won 31-20 to clinch a playoff berth.
