Kai Forbath's Boot Nets Redskins Victory

Posted Oct 19, 2014

On a day when his services were needed, kicker Kai Forbath kicked the Redskins to victory, as his fourth conversion vs. Tennessee was a 22-yard game-winner as time expired.

Despite the fact that the outcome of a closely contested game hinged on his foot, Washington Redskins kicker Kai Forbath was relaxed before nailing what would become a game-winning 22-yard field goal as time expired.

“I was literally telling myself this is a PAT [point after touchdown],” Forbath told the media after the Redskins’ 19-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans. “You know, I do this every day in practice, every day in games. Nothing needs to change. So that’s exactly what I did.”

But, before hitting the game-winner, the Titans, as expected, called a timeout in hopes of rattling his confidence.

Forbath, however, wasn’t fazed by the extra time in the spotlight.

“I love that,” he answered when asked about the Titans’ timeout that negated his original make. “It’s a practice kick for me. I know they’re going to call a timeout, so why not take a practice?”

The kicker admitted after the game that “it felt great” to help give the Redskins their first win since a 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.

“We needed a win bad,” he said. “[Quarterback] Colt [McCoy] stepped in, put me in a great position. I couldn’t ask for better field position to kick the game-winner, so hats off to our offense for getting us there.”

Forbath – who received a game ball from head coach Jay Gruden in the locker room after the game – hit all four of his field goal attempts on the afternoon.

On the Redskins’ first drive of the game, Forbath hit a 31-yard field goal to put Washington on the board first.

The UCLA product then hit another 31-yard attempt early in the second quarter to put the Redskins back up, 6-3.

Then in the fourth quarter, Forbath put the ball through the uprights on a 27-yard attempt before his final attempt gave the Redskins the victory.
