Jordan Reed Going On Injured Reserve

Posted Dec 19, 2013

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed visited a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh today, who advised the team to shut him down for the rest of 2013.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was the bearer of bad news on Thursday, announcing that the team's top receiving tight end, Jordan Reed, will finish his rookie season on Injured Reserve.

"Jordan Reed will be out for the remainder of the season," Shanahan said. "He did see a [concussion] specialist today in Pittsburgh today. They recommended that he stay away, or at least not practice, for the next three weeks.

"He will go on IR."

This is a disappointing end to a sensational start for the 85th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Finishing the year with rookie tight end franchise records with 45 receptions for 499 yards and three touchdowns, Reed validated his luxury selection.

Developing rapport with Robert Griffin III this offseason while each recovered from leg injuries, Reed converted 30 of his 45 receptions for first downs this season.

Reed weathered a number of injuries aside from his season-ending concussion, appearing in nine contests.

Shanahan confirmed that the team also claimed and added former Broncos center J.D. Walton to the 53-man roster. More details to follow.
