Inaugural WOW 'Ladies Night Out' A Success

Posted Dec 18, 2012

Two hundred Women of Washington (WOW) members got an exclusive taste of the NFL life on Monday night at Redskins Park. A recap of the inaugural event.

Two hundred Women of Washington (WOW) members got an exclusive taste of the NFL life on Monday night at Redskins Park.

The WOW played host to its inaugural “Ladies Night Out” at Redskins Park, as nearly 200 female Redskins fans participated in the fun, free and informative three-and-a-half hour event that saw them performing football drills, learning all about football equipment, meeting and hearing from their favorite Redskins players and much, much more.

The “Ladies Night Out” at Redskins Park festivities began in the Redskins’ new Indoor Training Facility, where Redskins executive vice president and general manager Bruce Allen addressed all 200 ladies in attendance, many of whom were about to begin their football drills stations.

Allen told the crowd that, unfortunately, he didn’t have any 10-day contracts available for the night’s standout performers.

“I want you all to all to have fun today,” Allen said with a laugh. “Do not hurt each other. We’re going to be filming it just for entertainment purposes — you’re really not going to make the team tonight.

“But we will show [the film] to the players to show them the great athletes that came out here.”

Next on the microphone was Larry Michael, the Voice of the Redskins, who updated the crowd on the current Washington season, which has seen the Redskins win five-straight games since falling to 3-6. At 8-6, the Redskins lead the NFC East after Week 15 for the first time since 1999 and control their path to the playoffs.

“The Redskins are in pretty good shape,” Michael said. “If the Redskins win [Sunday’s Eagles] game, then the Dec. 30 game against the Dallas Cowboys is for all the marbles. Anybody here—about seven weeks ago—think we’d win the NFC East?”

Then came all the fun.

Manning the offensive drills for the ladies was Redskins alum and running back great Ricky Ervins, while current Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins took control of the defensive drills station.

The women rotated between stations, also heading inside Redskins Park for food and beverages, taking pictures by the team’s three Super Bowl trophies and getting autographs from four current Redskins players: safety DeJon Gomes, cornerback Josh Wilson, defensive lineman Doug Worthington and running back Tristan Davis.

The event wrapped up with a Redskins player Q&A session, as running back Alfred Morris and wide receivers Leonard Hankerson and Joshua Morgan fielded questions — and hugs — from several of their biggest fans.

Throughout the evening, WOW members also got the opportunity to take photos at the Redskins-themed photo booth and shop at a mobile Redskins Team Store, as well as have the chance to enter and win exclusive Redskins raffle prizes — such as an autographed Ryan Kerrigan jersey and a team-autographed football — that were awarded at the conclusion of “Ladies Night Out” at Redskins Park.

The inaugural event was fun for all and a huge success for WOW, which is open to all female fans of the Redskins.  More member-only events are planned throughout the year for behind-the-scenes access to Redskins Park and FedExField, as well as exclusive content on their interactive website.

The free membership also includes special retail offers and exclusive access to year-round events ranging from football and fitness gatherings to intimate networking luncheons.
