Griffin III Holds Passing Camp In Waco

Posted Jun 29, 2012

OTA's might be over, but rookie QB Robert Griffin III continues to jell with his receivers in Waco, Texas, where he's holding his first Redskins passing camp.

The Redskins were one of the first teams to complete their offseason schedule, finishing mandatory mini-camp 15 days ago.

With 17 days to go before rookies report to Redskins Park for training camp, Robert Griffin III has summoned his receivers to Waco, Texas for his first NFL passing camp.

“We knew we needed to get together," he told Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.  "We got workout facilities and everything.  Shockingly, I convinced them to come to Waco, Texas, because not everybody wants to do that."

Waco may not be a popular vacation destination, but most of the receiver corps is expected to be in attendance.

Griffin III appreciates the effort that his teammates took to get there, and intends to make the most of their time together.

"Those guys made the sacrifice to come down and see me," he said. "For those guys to show that they’re willing to come to Waco, Texas to work out with me lets me know they believe in me."

The Redskins passing camp was discussed with the media during the final days of mini-camp, and drew the endorsement of head coach Mike Shanahan.

"It’s always nice when people are working out, and you know they’re going to work out," Shanahan said.  "Obviously they will be working out and feeling comfortable with our system, and ready for our camp."

Rookies will report to Redskins Park on July 16, while veterans will report for training camp on July 25.

This will be Griffin III's last opportunity to work with his veteran receivers until the first practice of training camp on July 26.

"It’ll be a busy time, but I’m gearing up for this long year," Griffin III said.  "It’s important for us to be successful, and [this] is what you have to do."
