Garçon: Our Goal Is To Score Every Drive

Posted Sep 7, 2012

Redskins WR Pierre Garçon spent his first three seasons playing in a dome, and knows the pitfalls of crowd noise. Even so, he remains confident for Sunday.

In recent seasons, the New Orleans fan base has earned the reputation as one of the loudest and rowdiest in the NFL.

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome holds more than 73,000, and will be filled to the brim for kickoff weekend.

The implications of the overwhelming crowd noise has been on the minds of the Redskins coaching staff, which has moved practices indoors for three-of-four days this week.

Top Redskins receiver Pierre Garçon began his career in Indianapolis, and played more than half of his games indoors.

Although he has rarely been on the receiving end of disruptive crowd noise, Garçon has been working closely with his rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III to ensure that the offense gets off without a hitch.

“He’s doing a lot of great things,” Garçon said of Griffin III.  “We’re practicing going on the silent count, preparing for the noisy crowd and we’re handling it very well. It’s coming along well.”

The Saints are known for their aggressive offense and quarterback Drew Brees is expected to test the Redskins’ new-look secondary.

The demand for the Redskins’ offense to keep pace with the Saints has added a degree of anxiety, but Garçon doesn’t feel that their mindset needs to be any different.

“We always put pressure on ourselves to score on every drive,” Garçon said.  “That’s our goal every time we step out there as an offense.  We know we have to put points up to help our defense.”

Garçon has amassed 188 receptions for 2,519 yards and 16 touchdowns in his still young career.  Even though his statistics speak for themselves, he still feels he has something to show each week.

“I always play with a chip on my shoulder.  That’s the kind of player I am, always getting something to get me motivated, get me hyped and going on in the game.”

Garçon still knows the after all of the studying and practicing is complete the only time all of their hard work matters is on the football field.

“We do have a lot to prove and it would be nice to prove something on Sunday.”
