FedEx ONE To Watch: Redskins-Cowboys

Posted Oct 22, 2014

Redskins.com’s Stephen Czarda brings you ONE matchup to watch in Monday’s Redskins-Cowboys game, brought to you by FedEx One Rate.

Each week during the 2014 season, Redskins.com’s Stephen Czarda will highlight ONE key component to each week's matchup, brought to you by FedEx One Rate.

This week's "One To Watch" is the matchup between the Redskins defense and Cowboys running back Demarco Murrary, the top rusher in the NFL so far this season.

Dallas Cowboys running back Demarco Murray has been on quite the roll to start the season.

The fourth-year back has recorded at least 100 rushing yards in all seven games to start this season – an NFL record.

In fact, his 913 rushing yards are almost 300 more yards than the next leading rusher – Houston Texans running back Arian Foster.

Last week against the New York Giants in a Cowboys victory, Murray ran the ball 28 times for 128 yards and a touchdown.

He has carried the ball at least 21 times in every game this season, as the Cowboys have relied heavily on his production.

But, while he’s experiencing success this season, the Washington Redskins have been able to bottle him up on a consistent basis over the years.

In five career games against Washington, Murray has carried the ball 73 times for 280 yards (3.8 PYC).

So far this season, the Redskins rank in the top half in of the league statistically in rush defense.

In the Redskins’ last two games against the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, they’ve allowed only 150 rushing yards on 45 carries.

What could help Washington in stopping Murray is the return of Stephen Bowen to the defensive line rotation and Jason Hatcher’s experience with the 6-foot, 217-pound running back.

Bowen received his first game action of the season against the Titans, appearing in nine plays according to CSN Washington.

Hatcher, meanwhile, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Cowboys before signing in Washington this past offseason.
