The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Darryl Sharpton.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sharpton (5-11, 235) was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 42 games with 19 starts in four seasons in Houston from 2010-13, recording 144 tackles (93 solo), three passes defensed, one interception, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovered.

Last season, Sharpton appeared in 15 games with eight starts, both career highs, and posted single-season bests in total tackles (87), solo tackles (56) and fumbles forced (one).

Sharpton played collegiately at Miami (Fla.) from 2005-09, where he started 30 of the 52 games in which he played and recorded 255 tackles (154 solo).

He started 12 games as a senior and led the team with a career-high 106 tackles (65 solo) and added a forced fumble, three passes defensed and an interception which he returned for a 73-yard touchdown.

Sharpton, 26, attended Coral Gables (Fla.) H.S., where he was earned All-Dade County honors after compiling 96 tackles (three for loss), two interceptions and four blocked punts as a senior in 2004.
