Council Approves Richmond Training Center

Posted Nov 26, 2012

The Richmond City Council voted to approve the construction of a training facility in the City of Richmond that will host Redskins Training Camp beginning in 2013.

The Richmond City Council voted this evening to approve the construction of a training facility in the City of Richmond that will host Redskins Training Camp beginning in 2013.

Redskins general manager Bruce Allen offered the following statement on behalf of the team:

“We are pleased to be associated with what appears to be a model public-private partnership that was the vision of Gov. McDonell and Mayor Jones, made possible by Bon Secours.

“We believe that our Bon Secours Training Camp will become the model for all professional sports teams and look forward to creating a winning environment for our team and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“Today’s agreement of bringing the Washington Redskins Summer Training Camp beginning in 2013 to Richmond has overall merits for the entire city. The agreement, in partnership with Bon Secours Virginia Health System, will spur multi-site development and jobs, as well as have an estimated $40 million investment in Richmond with greatly expanded benefits.

“The partnership will significantly expand upon our effort to build healthier communities across Richmond and will help the city realize the creation of over 200 new jobs. The economic impact of the three week summer training camp alone is estimated to be $8.5 million per year.
