Brown, Mongtomery Open to O-Line Shuffle

Posted Oct 18, 2011

Right tackle Jammal Brown and center Will Montgomery said this week they are willing to move to other positions on the line to help compensate for the recent spate of injuries.

In addition to questions at the quarterback position, the Redskins will have to make some changes to the offensive line.

Left guard Kory Lichtensteiger and left tackle Trent Williams both suffered injuries against Philadelphia on Sunday. The team placed Lichtensteiger on the injured reserve due to the ligament injury in his knee.

Williams suffered a high ankle sprain, and while there is no immediate timetable on his return it is expected to be a couple of weeks.

These injuries took place during the game, and coaches were forced to shuffle players around on the line. Will Montgomery, who was the starting center this year, moved to guard to replace Lichtensteiger.

Erik Cook came in off the bench to replace Montgomery at center and tackle Jammal Brown replaced Trent Williams at the left tackle.

Similar to the quarterback situation, the coaches won’t announce the starters on the line until sometime tomorrow. No matter what the coaches decide though, the linemen are ready to fill any spot they need to.

Will Montgomery has experiencing playing both center and guard, but is more than comfortable playing both

“Yea I was comfortable at center, and I think I’m more than capable of playing guard,” Montgomery said. “I thought I played really well [at guard] the last seven games last year so now I just have to get back in that frame of mind and go from there.”

Jammal Brown isn’t quite sure where he will be asked to line up on Sunday, but he isn’t too concerned either.

“I’ll do whatever the team asks me to do,” Brown said.

With versatile offensive lineman, there are various different combinations the coaches could decide to use for Sunday’s game against Carolina.
