All Eyes On Fletcher's Gametime Status

Posted Nov 22, 2012

After testing his ankle pregame, Redskins LB London Fletcher is expected to be a gametime decision to continue his NFL-leading consecutive games played streak.

Redskins linebacker London Fletcher is listed as questionable this afternoon, nursing an ankle injury suffered in Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fletcher wore a walking boot for much of the week and was a limited participant in practice.  Although it is not the first time Fletcher has overcome injury to play, his 234-straight games played streak is on the line this afternoon.

“It matters to London," head coach Mike Shanahan said on the streak. "It matters to us--not necessarily the streak--but playing.

There is a reason why he has played all those games because he plays when he is hurt. Hopefully he will be able to play."

Fletcher worked out with the training staff pregame and his status is expected to be a gametime decision.

If he has any say in it, he will lead the team out of the tunnel in Cowboys Stadium.

"The fact that it's a short week doesn't help, and that's my main concern," he told the media on Tuesday. "That's three less days that I have to heal.  The only thing I can do is get as much treatment as possible and let the training staff do their thing.

"We'll see how I feel pregame and whether I'll be able to go or not."

Fletcher has played through a number of leg injuries in the last two seasons, including a 20-tackle performance against the Bills in Toronto last year.

He made it clear that his decision would be with the best interests of the team and the season in mind, but that the consecutive games streak would not factor heavily into his decision.

Fletcher laughed when asked how often he thinks about the streak, responding: "Only when you bring it up."
