  • ESPN 980: Redskins Saturday with Doc Walker Hour 3

    Posted Jun 27, 2016

Doc Walker from ESPN 980 fills in for Andy Pollin this week for “Redskins Saturday.” The Redskins won the NFC East Division Title last year – but they have not won back-to-back titles since Doc Walker wore the uniform 36 years ago in 1985, back in the day of Dexter Manley, John Riggins, Darrell Green and Joe Theismann. Doc talks about how this year’s team is different, and explains how it can be destined for greatness, but only if the players continue to grow the brand “within the locker room,” with the attitude that you’re either "rising or falling." There is no middle ground. Once that happens, as Doc puts it, “you’re dangerous.” Plus Redskins broadcasting legend Bernard Shaw gives his thoughts on this year’s team, and CSN’s Dave Feldman talks about the NBA Finals, and whether Draymond Green’s suspension coupled with Curry and Bogut’s injuries cost the Warriors the championship.

  • ESPN 980: 83 Redskins-Best Teams To Never Win SB

    Posted Jun 22, 2016

Al Galdi from ESPN 980’s “Morning Blitz” takes a look at some of the NFL teams that broke their regular season franchise “wins” records, but couldn’t seal the deal when it came to the Super Bowl. The 1983 Redskins’ stunning 38-9 loss to the Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII is something fans still lament to this day. Joe Gibbs talked with Mike & Mike about the game back in 2011, and Al plays back part of that interview. Were the Raiders really the better team? Or would the outcome have been completely different if Gibbs had simply enforced a team curfew in Tampa?

  • ESPN 980: John Riggins on the Redskins

    Posted Jun 21, 2016

Hall of Fame Redskins Fullback John Riggins talks with Chris Cooley and Nick Ashooh of ESPN 980 about "Redskins and beer" - including the new microbrew that John Hovermale and the Escutcheon Brewing Company just created in Riggins’ honor: “4th & 1 Pilsner” – named after Riggo's game-changing 4th & 1 touchdown in 1983's Super Bowl XVII, where he was awarded Super Bowl MVP. John talks about how the beer came into creation, and swaps ‘road stories’ about the Redskins, Joe Gibbs and beer – and how much was ‘too much’ before a game. Plus, he touches on Washington’s concerns over Matt Jones’ fumbling issues. Is the Redskins running game overrated?
