  • ESPN 980: Super Bowl Memories With Derrick Brooks

    Hall of Fame LB Derrick Brooks talks with Kevin Sheehan and Thom Loverro of ESPN 980 about playing in Super Bowl XXXVII, and the Wild Card playoff game between the Buccaneers and Redskins three years earlier in 2000. The Redskins were leading 13-0 in the 3rd quarter until Tampa Bay safety John Lynch intercepted a pass from Brad Johnson on the Bucs’ 27-yard line. That set up a 73-yard drive ending in Mike Alstott’s touchdown. The ‘Skins were still leading 13-7 until, as Tommy puts it, “Derrick Brooks went to work.” The Buccaneers won the game 14-13 and the following year, Brad Johnson was QB for Tampa Bay.

    Former Redskins offensive tackle Jim Lachey talks with Kevin Sheehan and Thom Loverro of ESPN 980 about the ’91 Redskins and their 37-24 win over Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVI. That was the game where the Bills defensive line coach Chuck Dickerson mocked the entire Redskins’ offensive line during a TV interview, calling Joe Jacoby in particular a “Neanderthal” who “slobbers a lot” and “probably kicks dogs in his neighborhood.” He also went on to slam Jim Lachey, saying he “has bad breath. Players will fall down without him even touching them. “Lachey talks about how Joe Gibbs used that tape as fuel to fire up the Redskins.

The Redskins came back with 42 unanswered points, including a record-setting 35-point second quarter to seal a blowout 42-10 win for the Redskins.
