The Redskins have signed veteran outside linebacker Robert Thomas, the team announced on Wednesday.

Thomas is a 7-year NFL veteran who played for the Oakland Raiders the last three seasons.

Last year, Thomas played in two games, with one start, as a reserve linebacker. He missed time early in the season due to a knee injury and sat out the latter part of the year with a hamstring injury. He was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 5, 2008.

In 2007, Thomas played in 14 games, with 10 starts, for the Raiders and posted 62 tackles.

Thomas, 6-0 and 235 pounds, has versatility in that he has played all three linebacker positions in the NFL.

He was a first-round draft pick (31st overall) by the St. Louis Rams in 2002.

He played for the Rams from 2002-04 and then played one season with the Green Bay Packers in 2005.

For his career, Thomas has started 50-of-84 games and logged 304 tackles (245 solo), two sacks and one interception.

A native of El Centro, Calif., Thomas played college football at UCLA. He is 28 years old.
