Team Tells Season Ticket Holders About Triple-Sized Screens at FedExField

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA -- Washington Redskins season ticket holders will begin receiving mailings this week which will include an announcement about the installation of two new “punter-proof” video boards in each of the end zones at FedExField.

The screens -- 100-feet wide, state-of-the-art high definition LED displays -- will triple the size of the existing end zone video displays. In addition, the team will enhance the fans’ game-day experience with all-new game clocks, play clocks and other in-stadium video displays.

“Dan Snyder asked us to identify the technologies that would deliver a spectacular game-day experience to fans,” said David Donovan, the team’s chief operating officer. “These upgrades to true HD video boards and control room will allow us to carry high-quality, multiple-angle replays, live game action and game graphics, as well as more frequent out-of-town scores.”

Donovan said the team has not made a final determination on the vendor for the project, but he noted that the construction and remodeling of the video boards will be the most significant improvement to FedExField since its opening.

The end zone video boards also can be split into multiple configurations, providing enhanced flexibility for display of video and information to fans.

“I can guarantee this,” said Donovan, “these boards will be among the best in any sports stadium, anywhere, and they will be ready for the 2010 season.”

Donovan said he expects the boards will be approximately 30-feet high and 100-feet wide, replacing the existing analog board in each end zone. Only one of the current displays in each end zone is capable of video display.

Until final specifications and designs are chosen, Donovan said he does not know if any fans on the club level could be displaced.

“As soon as we know if any of our guests will have their view impacted,” said Donovan, “we will notify them of their upgraded seat location at the same price.”

Redskins owner Dan Snyder said the ownership group is 100 percent committed to offering superior and innovative technology to the fans at FedExField.

“It’s all about the fans’ ability to interact both with and within the game,” Snyder said. “We want everyone to be able to get the full impact of the competition on the field.  These boards will enhance the experience of every fan in the stadium.”

Because the stadium is privately held, all of the expenses associated with the renovation will be borne by the Redskins.  No public financing is involved.

Announcement of the stadium upgrades comes on the heels of the team notifying fans that general admission ticket prices for 2010 will remain the same for the fifth straight season. Only one other team in the NFL has maintained the same ticket prices for that period.

General admission tickets currently range from $29 to $99. The Redskins’ average general admission ticket prices are below those of nine other NFL teams, including most of the other major markets, according to the 2009 NFL survey of Team Marketing Report. The team’s season tickets have been sold out since 1966.
