On newly acquired CB DeAngelo Hall:

“We had an opportunity to get him. We felt like he could help us in the scheme with which we play as far as the combinations between man-to-man and different combination coverages. We’re excited about the opportunity of another very good football player coming to help us out. He has a lot of speed and he’s very capable of taking a guy out one-on-one. We think he’s a very good player, and we hope he fits in well here.”

On the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys:

“It will be one of the best games of the week – another hard-fought battle. We get to play at home. It should be unbelievable, so I’m really excited about it.”

On injury updates:

“Santana (Moss) is coming right along. He’s just a little tentative with his hamstring. We want to work him into a good pace. Ladell Betts did a really nice job today, and he’ll be in pads on Wednesday in a limited fashion. Clinton (Portis) has a sprained knee, so he’s day-to-day. He’s questionable. We need to get the pain out of his knee and see how he progresses along. Marcus Washington has a bit of a shoulder sprain, so we’re trying to get the strength back. All of the swelling is out of Jason Taylor’s leg and his wound is healed. Malcolm Kelly practiced today – we hope to get him in full gear and practice him on Wednesday. We’re going to let him fully participate in everything this week. (Anthony) Montgomery got a little shot in his Achilles to quiet it down, so that is day-to-day. He is doubtful right now as far as practice goes this week. (Shawn) Springs should practice hopefully on Wednesday, but it will probably be on Thursday. Todd Collins actually had a severe sinus infection. He’ll practice on Wednesday.”

On running back Clinton Portis:

“It will be a major issue for all of us (if he doesn’t play on Sunday). He’s been a tremendous asset to our football team – he’s a driving force. We’ve always called on players in the wings. If he can’t go, we’re hoping Ladell will be back, Shaun Alexander is there, Rock Cartwright.”

On coming back from the bye week:

“I saw everybody paying attention. I think we set new challenges for the last two quarters of this football season. It was good for everybody to have a break. I think the coaches as well as the players have a good outlook on what we’ve got going starting today. (During the bye week), we talked about everything. We talked about our tendencies, our strengths and our weaknesses. We talked about any change of directions we might want to take, and some of those have to do with schemes. We also took a look at ourselves and how we are coaching. Hopefully everybody will take something from the exercises that took place during the bye week, so we can be better coaches and be better players. I’m hoping for improvement.”
