FedExField, the home of the Washington Redskins, will be the site when Virginia Tech hosts Boise State University on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010.
“We are excited to have two premier collegiate football programs compete at FedExField,” Redskins Chief Operating Officer Mitch Gershman said. “There is a significant Virginia Tech alumni base in the Washington metropolitan area, which will have the opportunity to watch the 2008 ACC champion Hokies play the 2008 WAC champion Boise State Broncos. We are actively pursuing high-profile college football games and other exciting events at FedExField.”
Information on tickets sales and the kickoff time will be released at a later date.
The game will mark the second time Virginia Tech has hosted a team at FedExField.
The Hokies opened their 2004 schedule against Southern California with the Trojans posting a 24-13 victory in front of a capacity crowd.
The Broncos and Hokies have been two of the nation’s most successful collegiate teams over the past 10 years (1999-2008).
Boise State has the best record in college football during that time at 108-20 (84.3%). Virginia Tech is 100-30 (76.9%) the past decade, marking is the sixth-best record in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Last year, Boise State (12-1) finished ranked No. 13 and Virginia Tech (10-4) concluded with a No. 14 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
FedExField will also host the 112th Army-Navy Game, which will be played on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011.
