Hey Everyone,

My name is Tena, I’m 27, and this is my 4th year as a Redskins Cheerleader. I’m originally from New Haven, CT but now reside in the DMV.  I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, and  I have aspirations in musical theatre, film, dance and modeling. I am a featured comedic personality for a localized comedy show called “The Tommy Taylor Show”, a newly signed dancer for MSA LA and a company member of Capitol Movement Inc.

My time with WRC has truly been nothing short of an amazing experience that continues to get better and better by the day and every year. I’ve traveled to many countries around the world on tours including India to dance for an Indian Cricket team, Aruba and Dominican Republic for our team calendar, as well as various countries in Europe and Southeast Asia, including Afghanistan where a few of my fellow teammates and I performed for our troops overseas. Never in my wildest dreams could I’ve ever imagined myself being part of such an amazing team, supported by the NFL’s greatest fans, with so many incredible experiences.

I’ve always felt that my calling was in entertainment. I love to sing, dance, and act. Growing up, I was always performing for my family members, school and church functions, singing and dancing in plays, musicals, and choirs. My family didn’t watch much football on T.V., but one day we did and I saw the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. From then on becoming an NFL cheerleader became a dream of mine. Little did I know, 10yrs later, that dream would come true, and I would be dancing for the FINEST team in the NFL.  Hail to the Redskins!

I started my cheerleading training in middle school, where I cheered for our basketball team at East Rock Global Magnet School, under the direction of Jackie Porter and Judie Dixon. Graduating as a Junior Honor Society member, I wanted to continue cheering in high school, but it did not quite work out that way. Instead volleyball and Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field became my sports of choice at Wilbur Cross High School; the best high school in NEW HAVEN! I wouldn’t be the person I am today had it not been for all the love and support my teammates gave me as well as all the lessons in dedication, and diligence my coaches Fran Esposito, Rivera Estaban, and Queen Edwards, bestowed upon me. I love you guys.  I joined the drama club, my freshman year, and every since we did "FAME" the musical, I knew that the performing arts was something I couldn‘t live without. Thank you Mrs. Sadick-Brown and all my fellow Thespians.

With the help of the I Have A Dream Scholarship, and the guidance from my IHAD mentors, Howard University became my home away from home, and the institute where I zoned in on my craft as a performer and artist featuring in departmental productions. My years within the Musical Theatre Department taught me a lot about myself, life, my craft, as well as what it takes to survive in the industry. Howard was also the place I got my first taste of dancing on a football field. You can thank Howard’s “Showtime” Marching band and the ladies of the Ooh La La! Dance squad for preparing me for the pros. My former adviser, Jenye, was a Redskin Cheerleader and a line captain. She has been my greatest inspiration next to my mother.

Outside of the performing arts, I am a massage therapist in training and fitness guru. I teach dance and fitness to children and adults of all ages and continue to further my training and education as a performer and artist. I like relaxing, modeling, creating arts and crafts, eating good food, watching informative shows on the Discovery Channel, and spending time with family and friends, even though, I don’t always get to see them as often as I’d like to. So to everyone out there, Family, Friends, and Fans, I love you and am glad God has blessed me with people like you in my life.

So that’s me in a nutshell, GO SKINS!
