What’s up Redskins Nation!?

It’s Maya here, and I am so stoked to be returning for my sixth season, and second year as Captain.  I’m not your typical cheerleader! I tend to go for the road less traveled by and have a deep sensitivity for the stillness of nature.  I have wanderlust, extreme insomnia, and am fascinated by vibrant, positive people. If my day starts with black coffee and listening to Jack Johnson, I will be the happiest human you have ever met.

My hobbies are as random as peanut butter and pickles.  I enjoy target shooting, scrap booking, archery, playing the ukulele, DIY projects (that never turn out like they do on Pinterest), baking homemade protein treats, CrossFit, and teaching my dog new tricks! But these days, my spare time is devoted to one of two things: bible study or home renovations.

The most frequent question I get asked is, “what else do you do besides cheer”? Well, besides all that fluff I listed above… I graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Communication and a concentration in Public Relations.  During my last year in school I managed public relations and marketing for three companies.  I then crossed over to a more tech-savvy role in the IT industry and did market research and business development.  This year, I am working full force with a wonderful start-up company, as manager of their social media.

One of my favorite moments of being a cheerleader would be partaking in Military Appreciation tours! I’ve had the privilege of traveling to over eight countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.  They were unbelievably heart-warming experiences.  I want to thank all the men and women who fight for our country! It was through cheer that my knowledge and appreciation for the military has grown and I am beyond honored to say I will be marrying a much decorated Combat Controller in a few months!

None of this would be possible without God, my family, and my best friend. So before I write off, I would just like to extend my gratitude to all those who have impacted my life. I thank God for letting me see another day, my family for pushing me to follow my dreams, and of course my biggest support and best friend Bobby for doing such a great job at handling this Asian fireball.

Lastly, thank YOU Redskins fans for making my cheer profession so enjoyable.

Can I get a HAIL YEAH!?
